On behalf of the Organising Committee, I would like to extend my warmest invitation to you to participate in the 21st Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers & Reinsurers Conference to be held in Kuala Lumpur from 19-23 October 2009. It gives us great pleasure to host this important biennial conference back in the Malaysian shores since the last conference held in 1993.
The theme for the Conference "Insurance & Reinsurance Environment in the Afro-Asian Region in the wake of the Economic & Financial Crisis" is indeed apt with the spate of events that have shaken the foundations of the global financial arena in 2008. The current business environment, though posing a host of challenges, are in fact surmountable and can even present opportunities that can be leveraged on by (re)insurance players.
This Conference therefore provides participants an excellent opportunity to hear perspectives of experts not only on the key challenges to the (re)insurance market and the key lessons to be learned but also opportunities in what currently looks like a grim economic setting. Taking place in the wake of the economic and financial crisis of 2008, the forum would also be timely for participants to share experiences and exchange ideas on what can be done to address these challenges going forward. Furthermore, participants should also use this as a platform for strengthening ties with business partners or foster new ones by establishing new contacts.
In addition, we welcome participants to also sample what Kuala Lumpur has to offer - the vibrancy and excitement of a metropolitan city as well as the melting pot of colourful Malaysian cultures.
